Commercial Radio & Audio, in partnership with Triton Digital, has released the September results for the Australian Podcast Ranker, the country’s only official third-party verified podcast measurement system. The Ranker is governed by a cross-industry steering committee and supported by commercial, independent and non-commercial publishers.
CRA CEO Lizzie Young said the Podcast Ranker delivers “what every advertiser needs: Certainty — verified data showing exactly who’s listening, what they care about and how to reach them when they’re most receptive.”
Post–grand final season — the period following Australia’s major football championships for the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL) — new audience data highlights differences in podcast listening between the two fan bases.
According to Triton Digital’s Demos+ survey data, AFL fans lead in Sports podcast consumption at 49.6%, followed by History at 32% and Society & Culture at 30.3%. NRL fans show a different mix, with Sports at 37.7%, then Music at 27.4% and Technology at 25.3%.
AFL fans complete their top five categories with News and Technology (both 30.2%), while NRL fans round out theirs with Business and Comedy (both 23.3%). CRA says these differences offer brands useful insight for tailoring tone, creative and placement strategies around key sporting moments.
