Eight years ago, JP Davidson launched Ottawa’s first dedicated podcast studio, Pop Up Podcasting. “At first I thought we’d be popping up temporary studios at clients’ locations,” he explains, “and we still do that occasionally.
“But most clients prefer the look, convenience, and cost when they pop up the elevator to our permanent downtown studio.”
Pop Up Podcasting’s downtown studio space has been recently overhauled with a focus on high-quality video production.
A state-of-the-art studio with passionate producers and staff
Clients benefit not only from Pop Up Podcasting’s state-of-the-art studio, but also from its team of experienced producers passionate about helping clients tell their stories with clarity and impact. With years of experience in broadcasting and media production, these experts guide every project – from initial concept through recording, post-production, and distribution on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
“We’re not just technicians,” says Davidson, “we’re collaborators – our producers take the time to understand your vision and bring it to life.” This hands-on approach ensures clients always feel supported and confident every step of the way.
The company’s client list spans businesses, NGOs, industry associations, unions, government organizations, and independent podcasters, including:
One major evolution since the business opened has been the rise of video podcasting. “We didn’t even have cameras in the early days,” Davidson notes. “Now, video is essential to our clients’ success.”
That shift drove a full studio upgrade this spring at 130 Albert St. “We upgraded everything: Cameras, lights, our broadcast desk, the backdrop and more,” says Davidson. The refreshed studio is now equipped with five cameras, enabling dynamic video production that enhances viewer engagement. Remote recording capabilities also allow clients to connect from anywhere, ensuring flexibility without compromising quality.
Even clients who don’t immediately release full video episodes benefit from capturing highlight clips for social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube, to boost engagement and visibility.
It’s no surprise, then, that YouTube is now the top podcast platform, surpassing both Apple and Spotify, according to Triton Digital.
